It has come to my attention recently that more and more small businesses (as well as large ones) are on the Facebook blitz. Commercials now are promoting “visit our Facebook page” instead of “visit our website” and it’s clear that Facebook is becoming more and more of a crucial marketing tool if you want to interact, and network with new and existing clients!
I found this really cool post on the Social Media Examiner today called “Why Most Businesses Get Facebook Wrong”. And in this post is a video clip by Jay Baer, co-author of the new book The Now Revolution and founder of the popular social media blog Convince and Convert. He talks about the importance of not only having a Facebook page, but that in order for it to be effective, it has to be maintained and engaged with on a daily basis!!! He goes on to say that many businesses just put up a “yellow-book” type business page and think that’s all that is needed to be effective. Not True!! Just like everything else, you get out of it what you put into it! If you just throw up a page and then don’t do anything more with it, how can you expect people to revisit and expand upon or want to know more about your business? Isn’t the reason you put the Facebook Business or “Fan” page up was to attract people to you? It’s not like, Field of Dreams, where James Earl Jones said, “if you build it, they will come”… sure you have to build it, BUT if you want people to stay, and to revisit, and to share your business page with friends, then you must take an active part in maintaining and adding to the value of your page, on a daily basis! I’ve read where it’s been said you should “update” your status on your page 2-3 times a day! AND, that you update during peak times; first thing in the morning; during lunch hour; and in the evening. So, what are you waiting for? Get out there and “post” or “update your status” or find a relevant article and post it to your FB business page, but DO IT!! So they will come!!!
